Previous Events:

July 28 - August 3, 2008: EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, WI


Terrafugia returned to the EAA's AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI for the third year running in 2008, debuting the Transition® Roadable Light Sport Aircraft Proof of Concept for the first time. The Transition® Proof of Concept spent opening day of AirVenture on AeroShell Square and was widely regarded as one of the highlights of the show.

With the Transition® development program still on schedule, Terrafugia's order book continued to grow at the show.

The Transition® Proof of Concept begins its powered testing program, including drive, taxi, and flight testing, after returning to Terrafugia's Prototype Development Facility in Woburn, MA.

Terrafugia events during AirVenture 2008:

  • Monday 7/28 opening until 3:00 pm, the Terrafugia Transition® Proof of Concept was featured on AeroShell Square.

  • Monday 7/28 at 8:30 pm, Terrafugia COO Anna Mracek Dietrich participated in a celebration of women in aviaiton hosted by Lane Wallace in the Theater in the Woods.

  • Thursday 7/31 at 7:45 pm, Terrafugia CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich gave a presentation on the Transition® at Theater in the Woods. The Proof of Concept was parked next to the theater for the evening.

  • Friday 8/01 at 4:00 pm, Carl Dietrich gave a technical presentation as part of a forum in the 05 Remos Pavilion.

January 17-20, 2008: Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo, Sebring Regional Airport, Florida

Terrafugia exhibited at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo, January 17-20, 2008 at the Sebring Regional Airport, South of Orlando in Florida. This event, dedicated entirely to Light-Sport Aircraft, is the largest event of its kind in the U.S. and is the place to be for anyone interested in purchasing a Light-Sport Aircraft or becoming a Sport Pilot. Terrafugia demonstrated the Proof-of-Concept folding wing and took feed-back from pilots and customers on the cockpit mockup of the Transition®. The response was very positive, with the aviation community looking forward to more progress and Terrafugia's planned appearance at Oshkosh 2008.

November 13, 2007: EAA Chapter 673, Marlboro, MA

Terrafugia CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich gave a presentation on the Transition® at the November 13th meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 673 in at Marlboro Airport (9B1). The talk covered general information on Terrafugia and an update on the Proof-of-Concept construction as well as a chance for audience questions. Terrafugia wishes to thank the EAA 673 leadership for hosting this session.

November 9, 2007: EAA Chapter 279, Hanson, MA

Terrafugia CEO/CTO Carl Dietrich spoke on the Transition® to a full crowd at the November 9th meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 279, the Colonial Chapter, at the Cranland Airport in Hanson, MA. General information on Terrafugia and an update on the Proof-of-Concept construction was covered in addition to audience questions.

October 13, 2007: Cub Scouts, Pack 107, Site Visit, Woburn, MA

Terrafugia co-founders Carl Dietrich, Samuel Schweighart and Anna Mracek Dietrich hosted Cubs and parents from Pack 107, Den 1, from Chelmsford, MA at Terrafugia's Prototype Development facility in Woburn, MA. The Saturday morning event included a brief lesson on how airplanes work, what it's like to be a General Aviation Pilot, and a tour of the shop. The Cubs also got a lesson in how to fly the Transition® with the X-Plane® simulator and folded their own paper airplanes.

October 2-3, 2007: FAA Airports Division, Central Region Annual Airports Conference, Overland Park, Kansas

Terrafugia's Chief Operating Officer Anna Mracek Dietrich gave a session at the FAA Airports Division Central Region Annual Airports Conference on October 3, 2007 to a full room on "The Future of Aviation". Besides sharing an update on the development of the Transition®, Anna thanked the airports community for their continued maintenance of the strong airport infrastructure that will support use of the Transition®. She also encouraged them to support the sale of auto gas at FBO's. Feedback was very positive.

September 17-20, 2007: SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, Los Angeles, CA

Terrafugia's VP of Engineering, Dr. Samuel Schweighart, represented the company at the SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to presenting Terrafugia's status in the development of the Transition®, which was well-received, Samuel met with other flying car enthusiasts to discuss the future of aviation.

From the Congress website: "The SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition provides a forum for the aerospace community to meet and discuss current and future challenges, opportunities, and requirements of next-generation R&D, products, and systems and to develop professional relationships among the members of the world aerospace community. Technical sessions, panel discussions, and keynote presentations are integrated in a program that provides value to industry and government engineers, scientists, designers, program managers, operators, educators, and students. The technical program will cover a broad spectrum of topics including avionics, environment, flight sciences, man-machine interface, manufacturing, materials/structures, propulsion, safety, and systems."

September 14-15, 2007: NCAE Leadership Conference on Aviation and Space Education, Arlington, VA

On September 14, 2007, Alex Min - Terrafugia's VP of Sales and Marketing - was the guest speaker at the opening reception for the Leadership Conference on Aviation and Space Education (LCASE).  A biennial conference sponsored by the National Coalition for Aviation Education (NCAE), this year's conference was held in Arlington , Virginia with the theme of "Priming the Pump - Strengthening Tomorrow's Aerospace Workforce."  Alex introduced Terrafugia to the conference attendees and spoke about the importance of education to the founding team at Terrafugia.

September 8, 2007: EAA 106 site visit, Woburn, MA

Terrafugia hosted the local Boston Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA 106) at our Woburn, MA facility for a fun and informative session that included a presentation and shop tour. The Chapter hosted a cook-out after the program. Terrafugia wishes to thank the EAA 106 board and members for making this event such a success!

July 23-29, 2007: EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, WI

Terrafugia completed our second year at Oshkosh having put over 500 cycles on the Proof-of-Concept folding wing that was on display. Also available for viewing were the 1/5th scale wind tunnel and RC models of the Transition® as well as footage of both in action.

Terrafugia would like to thank everyone that came by to see the progress we've made in the last year and the pilots that joined our family of depositors during the show.

April 16-18, 2007: FAA Airports Division, Northwest Mountain Region Annual Airports Conference, Seattle, Washington

The FAA Northwest Mountain Region Airports Conference was held at the Double Tree Hotel, Seattle Airport on April 16-18, 2007. Anna Mracek Dietrich represented Terrafugia in a session on the "Future of Aviation" on April 17, 2007. Terrafugia would like to thank the FAA and the conference organizers for this opportunity to engage the airport and aviation community.

Also presenting at the conference was Dick Blanchard, New Orleans Airport Fire Chief, on the truly impressive humanitarian efforts that were conducted at the New Orleans airport in the aftermath of Katrina. It was a shining example of the skill and dedication of the aviation community.

January 24-26, 2007: Powerful Ideas Summit, Valencia, Spain

Described as a "Meeting of entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Creation based on Science, Technology and New Business Models", the Powerful Ideas Summit was a venue for innovators and entrepreneurs from around the globe to meet and exchange ideas. Carl Dietrich presented the Transition and what it's taken to get Terrafugia to this point under the title, " Taking off: 'Terrafugia and The Personal Air Vehicle concept' " on January 25, 2007 in Valencia, Spain. Terrafugia was joined at the conference by James Patton, a graduate of the MIT Media Lab and founder of Patten Studio, LLC, Paul Osterman, Deputy Dean at the MIT Sloan School of Business, Michail Bletsas of One Laptop Per Child, John Perry Barlow of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and entrepreneurs from across Spain and Europe including Ignacio Garcia, founder of the newest regional jet service in Spain. Overall, it was an inspiring event promoting entrepreneurship that Terrafugia was proud to be part of.
